The goal of this project was to re-work an outdated condo in a great location into a contemporary urban loft overlooking Main Street for a hip young professional.

  • Walking into the residence, the first thing you notice after the expansive windows in the exposed brick wall are the gorgeous refinished original heart pine floors. Above the kitchen exposed joists reveal industrial-feeling sprinkler lines, black steel joinery and track lighting.

  • Building on the urban feel of the loft, the kitchen island is a custom designed steel piece on casters.

  • Both the island top and the backsplash behind the range are ground polished concrete interspersed with bits of crushed white glass, brown and black rocks and mirror glass.

  • The rest of the countertops, included the integrated concrete sink, only have a light grind- resulting in a contrasting texture and appearance. The custom white oak cabinets were designed to be more contemporary in style, with flat doors and modern hardware.

  • Ascending the stairs to the master bedroom and bathroom, a custom steel railing spanning the length of the loft perfectly frames the lively view of Main Street.

  • The warmth of the concrete and detailing of custom cabinets is carried through both of the bathroom vanities.

  • Tile in the master bathroom shower- chosen for texture and contrast.

  • More "sleek" tile choice for the main floor bathroom.

  • Original loft floor bisecting the windows overlooking Main Street.

  • Original kitchen and loft.

  • Loft plans as drawn by Chris Newell.

  • Completed loft.

  • Mid-renovation.
